A Brother Abroad is a cantata composed to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the consecration of the parish church of Pinner, Middlesex, in the 14th century. A Brother Abroad" is a cantata composed to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the consecration of the parish church of Pinner in Middlesex, and depicts the life of Peter of Bologna (c. 1260-1332), a 14th century Franciscan bishop who served as a bishop, a friar, and a statesman. The life of Peter, who served as bishop, monk, and statesman, is depicted in a performance with solo paritone, flute, horns, and percussion. The two accompanying unaccompanied works are developments of the cantata material. The album also includes "Children of Adam" on a poem by Whitman and "A Chainless Soul" on a poem by Bronte.
